Now it’s that time where I look like a crazy person before the basho starts. For example, before the Nagoya basho, I predicted that Hoshoryu and Onosato would be battling for the yusho with Onosato coming out on top. That did not happen, and I am here to acknowledge that.
I am also here to make more predictions. Aki is another potentially strange one, as Hoshoryu, Wakatakakage, and Wakanosho are all out from the very first match. That means the win target for the Predictions below was 292.5, because there will be 19-and-a-half Makuuchi matches every day if everyone stays healthy. If that takes a while to process, I get it.
My first pass on these predictions was way over. I was apparently quite optimistic. I’m holding onto Onosato winning this one. He looked much better over the second week of Nagoya, and he is probably still the best rikishi in sumo when he is at 100%. So maybe that means he won’t make it, because I’m putting it here. (If I’m right, you will never hear the end of it.)
See you here tomorrow for the start of the actual sumo.
